My Gym was born out of our passion to teach children in a fun, physically engaging environment. We delighted in seeing children's eyes light up for all those incredible milestones, from the tentative first steps to tumbling down soft mats. Sharing the parents’ excitement at their children’s accomplishments was the high point of our day.
Picture this: In 1983, three fitness enthusiasts—Yacov, Susi Sherman, and Bill Caplin—redefined children's fitness by blending dance, gymnastics, and athletics. That's the birth of My Gym! Their mission: create a space just for kids—no more sharing mom's or dad's gym, but My Gym. With backgrounds in dance, gymnastics, and athletics, they crafted a unique fitness curriculum focused on non-competitive skill building for ages 6 weeks to 14 years. Fast forward: Cory and Monique turned My Gym into a franchise sensation in 1994. The success was undeniable, growing from 100 kids to over 400 in a year. Now a global phenomenon, My Gym is consistently ranked the #1 children's program worldwide.

Evan WachtOwner
Evan has been part of the My Gym family since 2015. He began his journey as a teacher at a Manhattan location, where he quickly discovered that My Gym was the perfect fit for his passion for working with children and families. Inspired by the joy and impact My Gym brings to every child’s life, Evan decided to open his own franchise here in Brooklyn.
He launched My Gym Park Slope in 2017, followed by My Gym Cobble Hill in 2019, and most recently My Gym Downtown Brooklyn (City Point) in 2024.
Evan loves everything about My Gym — from greeting families at the front desk to creating meaningful connections with every child who walks through the door. His hands-on approach, energy, and genuine care for the community are at the heart of each My Gym location.
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have been part of the My Gym family for years, Evan looks forward to meeting you and your little one soon!
Vanessa has been working for the My Gym franchise now for many years as a head teacher connecting with not only the children, but also each mother, father, sibling, and nanny. She is very excited to take all of those experiences and bring them to all three Brooklyn locations. She can’t wait to meet all our new friends, putting a smile on their faces, and watching each child individually develop and build confidence that will help to guide them through life. Ever since Vanessa was a little girl, she would pretend she was a teacher and her three younger siblings were her students. For hours, she would help teach them how to spell their names, how to tie their shoes, and together, they would work on basic math skills such as how to add and subtract. Her mother, who is a teacher in early childhood education, helped inspire Vanessa to become a teacher, which she absolutely loves! To her, teaching has always been a passion, but the love she has for our current generation of children helping make a difference is what she stays true to. Vanessa believes building confidence in every child is just as important as generating trust. She bases most of her teaching style around those things. She is also a firm believer on imagination, creativity, exploration, and fun! Born and raised in New York City, Vanessa is proud to be of mixed ethnicities.
Bethany started working at My Gym in the summer of 2021. Her previous experience with teaching kids is in theater arts, dance, and music. From these experiences, she instantly fell in love with what My Gym has to offer. She has a passion and goal to create an atmosphere where kids feel supported and confident in their abilities. Her favorite part about working with kids is seeing them grow and how they can teach you just as much in return. She is grateful to be a part of the My Gym Brooklyn community and looks forward to growing with your little ones!
Summer started in the Summer of 2021 and immediately fell in love with the job and children. Not only has working here helped her come out of her shell, but it also warms her heart when she sees them open up to her and come out of their shell. Her favorite part of the job is getting down to the child's level and playing with them. Whether it be putting on a silly face, throwing a ball around with an older child, Summer loves all of the children that she gets to interact with.
Gabe joined the My Gym Brooklyn team in July 2022. He loves the atmosphere at My Gym because it allows him to share his creativity and physical talents, which helps inspire and educate the current youth. When Gabe is not at My Gym, he is at home writing, creating new ideas, and inspiring the community. He enjoys spending time with his family and ensuring everyone is having a good time. If you’re ever around Gabe, you know what a safe space feels like. He is welcoming and active and always tries to ensure all the children succeed. Gabe also makes the most out of every situation, bringing the greatest amount of energy to everyone, whether inside or outside of class. No matter where you are, Gabe is always your guy!
Kelyn joined the staff in September 2022, excited to be a part of the My Gym Brooklyn team! Her favorite color is pink, and she loves baking cookies and cakes in her free time! She hopes to create a fun and positive environment for every My Gymer and looks forward to creating a safe space for kids to feel welcomed and encouraged to learn and practice new skills. Her favorite part about working here is forming connections with the kids and watching their progress over the weeks. It makes her feel accomplished as a teacher.
Ben has been working at My Gym since August 2023. He studied and taught various dance styles, including ballet, modern jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and musical theater. Ben enjoys watching reality TV at home and going out with friends. He adores working with kids and hopes to influence children's lives positively.
